Was it harder then you thought?

So did mine. ...on paper.
My instructor was a big fan of following those rules. IN fact he kicked someone who was 17 when class started out the first day, very publicly.

To each his own. I'm thankful for the opportunity and the instructor I had. If I'm going to go medic I might as well start while my body's still up for it.
I was accepted and enrolled at IU as a chem/bio double major with a spanish minor. By about midterm of basic class, because of being in class, I knew I needed to change majors. Starting young changed everything for me, so I think you saying "thankfully" you had to be 18 for your class is wrong, but it's no matter to concern myself with.
Anyhow, I'm sure you'll do fine in class OP. The anxiety is part of the ride (and not just class, either).

I was a 16-year old high school junior when I started my EMT-B class. I was incredibly nervous. However as the class went on and I realized that class was a lot of repetition, just to drill the basics into our heads. Once I realized that it was cake. I barely had to crack my book open as long as I paid attention in the class lectures...Gotta give credit to my instructors though. They all had a passion for EMS and teaching EMS, made class much more enjoyable and made me relax some.
