Waited way too long now I need help!

I finished my medic course in 2006, took my fair share of tests and failed with the last one being in may of 2008. Have I waited too long to do just a refresher to be able to re-test? I have been working in the field for a while now, and the company is wanting me to try for cert again. They think I can still just do the refresher. Anyone have any ideas???

I would have to question whether YOU want to be a Paramedic. Since you have not followed through with getting your cert in 4 years and having stated that the company is wanting you to go for the cert, it makes me wonder if your heart is into doing this or if you are content with the lower level cert. I am also surprised that the company would be pushing for you to obtain a cert with just a refresher after this much time has passed. If this is a FD then I am a little less surprised since the push is for all FFs to become Paramedics regardless of desire or ability.

I really do want to get the cert, I am just deathly terrified of the tests. I dont accept failure very well, if I take it again and fail again then I feel like I am a failure. I know all the material, I just cant answer the questions on it. I just want to know if I have waited too long to do the refresher. All I need is the paper part of it, my partner is constantly working with me to learn it, I just need a paper saying that I can test again. Dont know the timeline for this

You may want to check with NR and your state. It may be that a refresher is okay if it's done within 2 years. Keep in mind, a refresher doesn't give you 3 fresh starts. It is good for one. Good luck.

For the NR:

If your initial Paramedic educational program was completed more than two years ago and you have maintained state licensure at the Paramedic level, you must submit documentation verifying completion of a Paramedic refresher training program within the past two years. If your initial Paramedic education program was completed more than two years ago and you never gained state licensure at the Paramedic level, you must complete an entire state-approved Paramedic course prior to applying for certification.

But, give the NR and your state office a call.

If it is for NR, You get 3 chances. Then take a refresher. Then you get 3 more chances. You fail all six, you get to take the entire course over again.

So is this for Texas or NR? How many times have you taken it? Your practicals are only good for a year, so you would need them again.

this is to get national to be able to get state cert. Took it all 3 times I was allowed to do, even got one paper test before all the CBT crap. In total 4 times, nremt only says 3 though. Practicals dont bother me in the least bit.

A refresher will get you 3 more trys. Now the problem is the time frame and NREMT can answer that for you. Make some calls on Monday.

Sorry you have to take an entire class. Be assured this will benefit you as you will already understand much and can be helped in areas you are weak in.
