I have been asked to volunter for the first aid station at our local camp ground. I am an EMT basic but am not acting a such in this situation is my card in jepordy and should I get malpractice ins

Just make sure that you don't provide any level of care above that of a first responder, and make sure people are aware that you are just providing basic first aid, not emergency medicine.

You can get sued by anybody for just about anything these days, however as long as you do your first aid care by the books, always recommend that an injured or sick person seek medical attention and keep good records, then they shouldn't have any case if it ever came to that.

I don't know the laws in NY, but you would probably fall under some type of good samaritan law as you are not working as an EMT.

I'm sure there will be other opinions and hopefully input from NY EMTs, but I do first aid at various events and have always followed what I wrote above.
 
As a volunteer, insurance costs next to nothing. It's probably worth it.

Though I'm licensed in NY, I'm not going to give legal advice here. I will say that the good samaritan law is a defense, it doesn't stop you from getting sued. You will still need a lawyer to get the case dismissed - another good reason to have insurance.

Why would your card be in jeopardy?
