My graduation date from EMT school was the last day of May 2012. Due to numerous personal hardships, I was never able to schedule an NREMT test date within the allotted time. Other than retaking the entire course, what are my options? Is there a refresher course that will qualify me to sit for the exam?

Now that my family issues and work situation are back on track, I can hardly wait to finally get my EMT career rolling. Please help!

I live in Florida, but would be willing to travel to another state if the rules somewhere else will allow me to get licensed.

Thank you in advance.

Did you test/license in FL. If not you will have to start over.

EMS has never figured out that sometimes certifications lapse and a refresher course leading to reinstatement is beneficial. Especially National. Find a course in your area and check out how long, how much, etc. Basically you're going to have to start over.

They've figured it out. The problem is he was never certified to begin with.

You're going to have to start over, sorry bud.

Sadly, it's like complaining that you did all the work to complete your taxes, but simply failed to mail them in.

Sorry you have to start over, but to say you were "never able to" find 2 hours (in 2 years!) to complete a process that you spent months working towards is not true.

You did the hard part but failed at the follow-through.

OK, guys. You said what I was that thinking. However, if you miss the March cutoff date, there should be a grace period.

If you're certified there is. You can't practice as an ems provider but you can take the refresher and pay extra money to get your card back.
But if you never bothered to take the time to test then you must start all over.

Why? You have two years to do it, that's plenty of "grace period". Maybe that sounds harsh and I of all people understand personal hardship, I've been struggling to keep my head above water financially for the last ten months being injured and on a restricted income, however two years is a long time especially if you're not using your knowledge and skills and never have used them.

Not trying to rip on you, OP, but it's also beyond two years. May 2012 to basically October 2014 is 2 years and 4 months. How long of a grace period do we need to give? I'd be surprised if other medical professions even allow the two year hiatus. If we want to be viewed as a profession we need to tighten our standards, not loosen them.
