Transporting "Non Essential" Service Dogs with Patient

So while you are starting the IV, the service animals puts its....

big hairy trunk on the freshly swabbed site. ;) (Seeing eye elephant? Ganesh good luck charm?

What of the pt cries out and the animal decides you are being an aggressor?

On the other hand ther is a common requirement now (state by state) that in time of disaster the pets have to be allowed to come along. Let' s see, take Fido or Granny Clampett...Fido will catch the next chopper.

like some people said, is it really going to hurt to take them? As long as the dog is trained, and not a risk to my health, why not?? To me there are bigger and better things to worry about I guess.

I would be worried about a 50-200 lb unrestrained weight being thrown around the ambulance if we were to be in an MVA. How do you restrain a service animal? How do you make sure they don't get in your way, while still being close enough to your patient? How do you make sure that you get rid of any smells/hairs/etc for the future? What if the dog reacts to a smell/sight in the ambulance? What about the opposite?
