Background info! I live in Indiana currently, and have not had any job using my EMT-B cert. My cert expires in April, and I don't know that I can get all of the hours, testing, etc done in time to renew. I am also VERY rusty with my skills and education, I plan on studying up, but like I said I don't think I have the time to brush up AND re-certify. My husband's job is relocating to Detroit, and therefore myself and family are most likely moving to Michigan, and I am not NREMT certified. So, I have a few questions...
1) At this point, should I even try to re-certify in Indiana?
2) Is there anyway if I let my cert expire that I can get around having to retake the classes to get re-certified? I thought I read a 120 day thing....
3) What's the deal with NREMT? Because of my 'iffy" moving situation, am I better off to get my NREMT instead of my state, assuming I let my state expire?
Thanks!!!!

In Indiana, I believe even with an expired cert you have the option to challenge the state test once. That would give you an Indiana cert.. and if you're moving out of state why bother with that.

You can take the NREMT, but you'll probably still have to get a Michigan state cert to work there. Research the rules regarding Michigan certs (requirements and reciprocity if any), and go from there.

Michigan reciprocity is a complete pain in the :censored: . If you keep your NR cert and apply for a license in MI you need like 70 something CE hours to get a license. It's probably cheaper (and easier) to just take the EMT-B class in Michigan and start over completely, especially if your skills are rusty.

This isn't what you want to hear, but I've always have to rationalize letting certain certs/licenses expire, and in retrospect it's almost always a bad decision.

I'd talk to someone locally and see what they suggest. Good luck!

I suggest taking the class again. 15 weeks at a community college, or 6 weeks in the summer.

Then it will be super easy to get your cert.
