If you had to teach one new EMT any thing what would it be?

If you had to teach one new Paramedic any thing what would it be?

Use everything you have learned in EMT class as a foundation to build on. The class can't begin to teach you everything.

I have to think on that one....

large, hot, regular. when the one im holding is empty, you best hand me another.

LMAO :p except i like extra strong

As for a medic: The stretcher can be moved by someone who has a cert. Higher than EMT-B.

Im feeling like if some ones ticked off that comment might lead to an up-roar...SO EVERY ONE PLEASE BEHAVEE!!!

Really simple...

For an EMT: Treat the patient, not the fancy electronic gadget (pulse ox).

For a paramedic: Treat the patient, not the fancy electronic gadget (monitor).

EMT: its harder in real life
Medic: Your in charge, relax and breath

New EMT ---- Don't tell me.... Do it!

New Paramedic? You can't tell the new ones anything. They know EVERYTHING! lol

Both: There are 13 laws of The House of God. While a few aren't relative to prehospital care, most are. Learn them and live them and you'll save yourself a lot of stress.

alternativly

Not everyone that acts cuckoo pants really is cuckoo pants.

What to teach them? That's easy.

"The Trick"

The trick to being a good EMT, medic, nurse, doctor, or whatever is not knowing what to do and being able to do it. That's easy. Any moron can be taught that.

The Trick is being able to do something and knowing when and when NOT to do it.

TO THE EMT: Remember, you're an EMT
TO THE PARAMEDIVC: Remember, you're an EMT first.

EMT: i hope you like to drive
Medic: even with all that fancy new stuff you learned you still need to rely on your basic skillset.

EMT: ABC's and learn from those that know more than you

Medic: BLS before ALS... and learn from those that know more than you

I agree completely. I just showed them to my partner, who has been an EMT forever, and he completely agreed. It seems BMC and MBH haven't changed in all these years.

I feel like i havent been in the fish tank long enough to give advice, but here it goes (based on expierence from today):
EMTs: ABC (Ambulate Before Carrying)-- you only have on back.

Medics: All bleeding stops... eventually...

EMT; school is a formality, you learn everything you need in the field
Paramedic; you're only as good as your EMT partner so treat them (and teach them) well!

EMT; school is a formality, you learn everything you need in the field

Which is why EMS will, for the unfortunate foreseeable future, be a low paid trade and not a profession.

EMT: An open mind, good questions, no ego, positive attitude, good hands, and good stethoscope is what you need to build on your patient care. Also, in a simultaneous dispatch ALS system, don't cancel the medics!

Medic: The aforesaid.

I'd tell both to treat patients the same way they'd expect and want their family members to be treated. Yes it's tough to do that when you're picking up the same person for the 5th time in a week for the same complaint - but that doesn't negate your role as a patient advocate and care provider.

Emt: Relax, breath,......Breath!!!!!!! It's okay to ask for help.

Medic: Same as above, dont forget we are all EMT's!!
