Is texting while driving part of the EMT training? If so, how many EMT's will admit to texting while driving?

Why on earth would an EMT need to text and drive? The only things I have needed to do while driving are calling supervisors/dispatch by cell phone and talking on the radio.

There is no way this is a serious question.

OP, did you see an EMT texting while driving? Is that what you're getting at?

Has to be. My reaction times and texting while driving abilities are highly acute and somewhat superhero like, but they developed suddenly in a blinding flash of white light after I passed the NREMT. I doubt anyone could train for that level of superiority ;)

I will give you the situation.

I have only known two paramedics where I have been in their presence while off duty. Both text while driving. One of them I do not know personally. I know her because of an accident.

We were sitting at a red light. As soon as we stopped, I had to readjust in my seating. I put the top of my seat belt behind my back and pulled out the bottom with my thumb. I then grabbed the handle on the dash and proceeded to turn on to my right hip. Just as I looked in the side view mirror and saw a blue Dodge Ram coming at us really fast.

Just as I opened my mouth to scream to my boyfriend, I looked up and the driver had her wrists on the steering wheel and she was texting! The next thing I knew, I went into the windshield and was slammed to the floor and my back smashed into the edge of the seat. My head was flipped back when she hit us and the EMT's could not find my eye glasses. My foot was jammed under the dash.

Days later we found my glasses under the back seat in the truck on the floor. Our seats were knocked off the tracks (I owned a 2005 Chevy Silverado) total damage was over $10,000.00 on my truck.

Florida is a no fault state. I am in collections for all our bills. Next month my house is going into foreclosure. I didn't sue he because I saw her and her partner had a baby and I didn't want to ruin their lives like she had ruined ours. My boyfriend and I sustained many of the same injuries. Why in God's name would an EMT text and drive? Unfortunately, I have to reconsider suing or lose my house.

Sounds like this is bordering legal advice, which we do not provide here. I'm sorry you had to experience such an incident.

As I'm sure you've been advised, contact an attorney. Thread closed.
