What country are you in? Where you're located makes a big difference.

Get your basic. Get a Job. Start Medic right away. Get your medic.

You have to be a medic for usually 2-5 years.

And you need to be a CCT medic.

Also all the HEMS companies around here require you to be a flight nurse as well.

You will need tons of certifications. And it is extremely dangerous. So just so you know what you are getting in to.

Set up a observation ride with a local 911 service. Generally you can arrange this if you call them directly and explain you are a high school student who would like to see how it works. Never too early to start volunteering with a service so look into that too. Anything that gets you some patient contact is probably a good idea while you start working on school. Beyond that I'm sure there are some folks on here who can give you more info on specific stuff to focus on.

Im in the United states Orlando,Fl to be exact. So basically what you're telling me is too take the basic EMT classes that they offer at most community colleges and that would take me to the next steps of being a paramedic? And what exactly are HEMS companies? While im taking these courses will the certifications come along with them or would I have to just keep taking different classes here and there?

HEMS is Helicopter Emergency Medical Services. CCT I believe requires pals and extra certs. So you would have to take extra class's.

Would the school I plan on going to recommend what classes I should take after I do the basic EMT classes or would I have to find them on my own?

They will have what you need to be a paramedic. Then you are on your own.

This is standard with the HEMS company here in Michigan. They require you to be a nurse as well.

  • Min of 5 years nursing experiance.
  • Min of 5 years in critical care or emergency room in a level 1 or 2 trauma center.
  • Min 2 years in a pediatric intensive care.
  • Current paramedic license
  • And ACLS//PALS//NRP certification

Those are required. This is what the desire...

  • TNCC, BTLS, FNATC and PHTLS.

I may be the odd one out here, but I would strongly suggest you to go college. A BS will give you a chance to learn physiology and you could easily work part time as an EMT-B while doing this.

You probably won't believe this, because I know I didn't when I was your age, but there is a good chance that you really don't know what you want to do in life yet. It is great to be goal directed, but don't forget that there are tons of amazing opportunities out there. College will open doors to many of these.
