Suicidal patient in Berkshires flees ambulance, missing

NORTH ADAMS - A 21-year-old man being transported to a hospital for mental health treatment fled from the ambulance and has been missing for days in the Berkshires.

Authorities say Gregory Hillman, whose family is from Darien, Conn., was being taken from a hospital in Pittsfield to a more secure facility in North Adams on Monday. When the ambulance arrived at the North Adams hospital, Hillman ran away.

Hmmm it's unclear what happened, but all the more reason to keep a close eye on psych pts, make sure they're properly restrained, and keep all doors locked during transport.

This happened in 2007: Nurse Jumps to her Death From Moving Ambulance

Authorities still do not know why a 36-year-old nurse jumped to her death from a moving ambulance on Interstate 25. (they know... suicide)

Melissa Lynn Watkins, of Aurora, was being transported as a patient from Parker Adventist Hospital to another hospital when she jumped out of the back of the ambulance, slammed on to the pavement and rolled to the side of the highway.

Other vehicles behind the ambulance were able to avoid hitting her. She died Sunday afternoon from her injuries.

Was a psych transfer - suicidal pt. She had gradually loosened her restraints each time the EMT looked away and once ready, bolted out the back door before the EMT had a chance to stop her.
