I'm thinking of taking an EMT-B course in 2011. Any suggested reading to help me get prepared for the course?

People Care by Thom ****.

There are lots of fantastic books to expose you to the hard science of EMS, but this one gives you a much better idea of what being an EMT actually means and ways to provide better care. It addresses how to improve your relationships with patients, their loved ones, other care providers, coworkers and even yourself.

That is a great book.

As for books, you could get an EMT book. They are overall cheap and you can probably find a tech school nearbye that has some decent used ones.

thanks for all the replies!

i picked up the brady emt 10th edition textbook for basically nothing.
and i will be sure to check out some of your recommendations when i get bored of looking at a textbook. thanks again!

So you've read Harrison's Internal Med?

Nope, although I have mastered my EMT textbook, I spent the rest of the summer studying for the MCAT. I might buy a copy for some light reading between calls though, so long as it doesn't break any weight restrictions for the truck.

Just thought I would point out that they have a few copies of this book on amazon at the moment for $16. I have seen it posted in several threads but always seems to be listed extremely high, saw it was down and now have a copy in the mail.

Cool thanks! I noticed that it was selling for like $300 a few days ago for some reason (it's not a long book at all) and was very confused.

I know this is kind of a convoluted process, but a local Community College's bookstore also sells it here for $20. You'll have to select one of the classes but it doesn't seem like you need to enter any student information or anything like that.
