Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself, I am from Louisiana and just finished an EMT Basic Course. Do not have an exact date but I will be taking my state exam in August. So between now and then we are study sessions. As of now my weakest point is the Medical Assessment Skills Station. There is so much information to learn because you do not know what scenario they will throw your way. I was also wondering about study guides. I have found so many study guides on the internet, but I was wondering if anyone here knows which guides are the best?

Welcome to EMTLife! Nice signature. LOL

What books did you receive for your training/classes?

:) :) :) Welcome!!! :) :) :)

Good Luck! Personally, I found the best study guides were the ones I made myself, not to mention that making them really helps get the info in your head.

THe brady books are great. They usually have scenario sheet in the back of the book after the appendix, I used those a lot too.

Hope that helps a little!

I would suggest downloading the skill sheets from the National Registry folks. You said "state exam" but it's likely that they're borrowing heavily from the DOT curriculum and the NR.

Also, download & read the DOT EMT-B curriculum. I did both of these and passed the National Registry easily.

Whoops, I was logged in under the wrong account. D'oh.

Yeah, the NR study guides & the DOT stuff actually helped me more than the Kaplan NR book, although it was good too.

Since this is a state test.. perhaps a copy of the protocols that you'll be working under would be useful too?

STUDY YOU TEXTBOOK!!!!! Then go over the common med emergencies. You're going to get CP or Diabetic emergency or Breathing difficultly 99 times out of 100. I seriously doubt you going to get a case involving sphenopalatineganglioneuralgia, but you might, so go ahead and study that too.

..

Check out flashcardexchange.com; This site has helped me through every state certification test I have taken.

I purchased Knigtlife's testing software off of ebay. It was $20 and included 1000+ questions. I did the entire test a couple of times, along with the tests in my EMT workbooks.

I'd offer to send it to you but I gave it away already. Good luck, and if you find any great resources, be sure to come back and let us know!

The book we used was pre-hospital emergency care.

Med assessment is my weak spot too - but I went through Registry already. I worked a lot with people from my class, and had them give me different scenarios and just kept working through them wtih some pointers afterwards on what I missed.
