Does anyone have access to recent studies concerning the best number of chest compressions during CPR?

There is one called "Chest Compression Rate: Where is the Sweet Spot?" But I can't access that one.

What journal is it in and date? Someone might be able to find it for you.

Anectdotally, I have a colleague who teaches CPR, that the best rate for chest compressions without the availability of a monitor is to do it while singing the chorus of the BeeGees' "Stayin' Alive".

I thought it was "another one bites the dust" :P

The idea behind the songs is to provide an intuitive metronome for a rate around 100/min. Current recommendations are 100 or faster. This is somewhat extrapolated -- there is some evidence that up to 120 or so might be valuable, hence "more than 100" not "around 100" -- mainly from these studies:

For a recent one, consider: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22623717
