Hello :)

I just received my NREMT certs in the mail for EMT-B after passing my exam last week, and am super excited! However, I wasn't aware that I had to obtain a state license. I got a job opportunity coming up and I hope this does not ruin my chances.

So my questions are:

Will not having the state license unable me from getting a job in my county?

What steps should I take in order to get the state license ASAP?

This is a new chapter in my life so I'm pretty oblivious. My state is CA. Any info and experiences will help. Thanks

You have to fill out required paperwork thru your county office and then wait for an EMT card.

You can not work as an EMT until you have your state EMT card.

Is this not covered in class? Not picking on the op but it seems like a lot of ppl post this.

Yeah, it was made VERY clear to us on the very first day of class exactly what was required, exam & certification-wise. We HAD to complete the requirements of the class, when the educational requirements were met, then we qualified to sit for the state written & practical. The school even hosts a state practical exam on-site the weekend after the class is finished.

It's all up to the EMT program if they want to give out all the information. Some programs do and some don't as you can see lol

It doesn't matter if this is covered in class. It's all over every step of the NR process. Any applicant who claims otherwise is negligent of reading all the info.

"National certification is not a license to practice" ect...
