Sources vary for Normal Vital Stats.

Is there a web site..or a source that I can find a more definitive answer to the correct VITAL STATISTICS. (For taking the NR test)

I have several conflicting sources.

I tried going on the AHA website but didn't find what I was looking for.

Some sources just give vitals for Newborns children 1-8 and adults.

Where others break it down to Newborns, Infants, toddlers, preschool, adolescent, and adults.

Example ...Once source says an Infant Pulse rate should be 100-160 while another states it should be 80-140.

I know this will make a big difference in the NR test!
 
Considering there are so many different sources of information concerning what you are calling normal, you will not see those types of questions on a NREMT Test.

This is from a few months ago. These are from the book I used for my EMT class and to prepare for the NR, and I passed, so these have to be pretty close. Hope it helps.

^ Agreed. And normal vitals can differ on every pt (ie- athlete, diseases, atmosphere, etc)

But from the pocket reference of mine:

Normal Respirations:
Adult: 12-20
Adolescent (11-14): 12-20
School Age (6-10): 16-30
Preschooler (3-5): 20-30
Toddler (1-3): 20-30
Infant (6-12 Months): 20-30
Infant (0-5 months): 25-40
Newborn: 30-60

Normal Pulse Rates (BPM, at rest):
Adult: 60-100
Adolescent (11-14): 60-105
School Age (6-10): 70-110
Preschooler (3-5): 80-120
Toddler (1-3): 80-130
Infant (6-12 Months): 80-140
Infant (0-5 months): 80-140
Newborn: 120-160

Normal Blood Pressure (Systolic/Diastolic)
Adults: 90-140 / 60-90
Infants/children: 80 + 2 x age (years) / 2/3rds systolic
Adolescents: 88-140 / (Average 59)
School Age: 80-122 / (Average 57)
Preschooler: 78-116 (Average 55)


As for the NR test, I don't think they'll be getting that specific. I'm just quoting the book.

Thanks for the help! Most charts are close...I would hope.that if a questions gave a rate....and it was boarder line because of a couple charts...it still shouldn't impact the result of the actions that should be taken. Guess I'll find out...testing soon!

I learned my lesson when talking the pulse of my first marathon runner. Absolutely amazing!
 
When they are giving you vitals, they are going to give you WILDLY off numbers. The adult pts RR will be in the 30's, the BP will be 60 systolic, the pulse will be 137...ect.....

There should be no mistaking the askew vitals.

Also, have you checked your text? There should be a chart in there.
 
Well, I took the test. Haven't found out the results yet. I sure don't feel good about it. (It stopped around 80)
Too many open ended questions for me.

As for the vitals...The ones they used in their scenarios were pretty obviously high or low.

So to others who are taking the test...pick a chart and stick to it. It will get you into the right ball field!
