I am a (soon) student to the emt life. I live in a town of 10,000. What should I expect when working as an Emt in a small town? What responsibilities does one have between calls?

Same stuff you get in a big town, just less of it. People still get sick, have car accidents and need to go to the hospital.

No idea about your responsibility between calls. That'll be up to your individual service. I suggest a ride along or two so you can get a first had look at what you're getting in to.

10,000 is a small town? Town I grew up in had a population just over 1,000. Next door neighbor was the fire chief and I was on the ambulance first as a FR then EMT. We were volunteer and on-call with pagers alerting us to calls.

10k for a single crew would be reasonably steady call volume wise, especially if the transport time is longer.

I work for a service that covers 25k ish with two or three ambulances. We have a chief and an administrative support person, and then all the rest of the non-clinical duties are divided between the field staff (15 of us). I do grant writing and social media, my partner does ambulance licensing, someone else does ordering, etc. I actually enjoy having some other things to do at work besides running calls since we aren't all that busy.
