to start medic at the end of the month, I realized my CPR card expires next month. Should I bother finding a refresher course or should I just wait till medic class when they offer to let us take it?

I'm not working, and I usually go out of my way to not play hero when I'm not working.

How does that work if you have an EMT license and your CPR cert expires?

Some require current CPR before entering the EMT course and some have it included within the program, you may want to inquire.

a valid CPR cert was a pre req for mine. I would definatley call and ask as the may not accept all certifying agencies. (mine wanted ASHI)

All I know of require current CPR.

Well mine will be valid when I "enter" the class. But expires next month

Most require it be current to graduate and they usually do not include cpr in the course.

Eh I'll get one eventually. I know they have it included in this course but we'll see

If you knew what you were going to do why did you waste our time.

Call the school and ask them what you should do. Or wing it and if they boot you don't come crying to us.

I didn't make you respond to this thread, therefore, I am not wasting your time. I wasn't sure if you had to keep it up even if you're not working currently to keep your license good too.

will you still be allowed to do your clinicals if your cert expires? your school may know the answer.

No but you asked and we tried to give you help. Don't ask if you don't want help.

Most (if not all) the programs around here include CPR in their training.

And if you feel like its wasting your time, then don't respond. Its a 2 way street here

If we all ignore those that ask and really want help the site will die. People that ask with no intention of listening to advise should not bother asking. It discourages people that actually have experience from having any desire to bother helping the new people.

I know around me, most of the programs DO cover CPR in the beginning of the course. Several folks (including me) tried to get out of it... because we are instructors though the TI where we took my medic class (and the head of the TI was our course director). He asked that we take the class, because it meant that he had documentation that EVERYONE had AHA Healthcare Provider cards that were current - from the EMS Region, his files, and it eliminated the liability of having a student with a lapsed CPR card getting jammed up if something went wrong.

I thought it was horse____... but I went, did CPR, and all was good.
