School Bus Rollover....18 transports ***Updated Link***

Had an MCI, school bus rollover on the interstate today. We transported 18 pts in 27 minutes. 6 ground units, 1 air. Luckily, and thank God, these 9 year olds were RESTRAINED! All minor injuries.... watch the video.... and you'll say thank god that bus driver insisted on seatbelts on all the kids to.

WOW!!! I think I might wear my seatbelt on the bus to NYC now LOL!^_^

goodness, did the driver make it?

You made CNN! It's a good thing they were wearing seat belts. I've never seen them on school buses.

When they started dispatching units it was like... "Med7, Med8, Med5, Med6, Med9, Med 1, 600, 610, QRV1, with Life Flight launching....." It was like OH hell!! This cannot be a good start to our day!

Pretty fairly impressive. I was able to take 2 pictures as we were pulling up on scene.... I will se how they look and post those, to give people an idea who havent yet had the "pleasure of an invite" to something like that an idea of what to expect.....

Of course I don't have photos of the people stopped in traffic on I10 who were actually stepping out of their cars and into the paths of the responding ambulances to get a better look!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I just saw raw video. No voice overs. Bus was pretty smashed up. Where did this happen?

seatbelts can both come with the bus or be added on later. In Ohio, there are some age restrictions that require younger children to be belted in so usually the front few rows will have belts for these kids.

I heard about this earlier, I'm surprised they were wearing seat belts. Here in my area, (Silver Spring, MD) the school buses usually don't have seat belts anymore. He was a smart bus driver to get them buckled.

My family business was selling and servicing school busses from 1978 to 1994, the last 13 years of which were for the Bluebird Body Co. I know they won't be happy with the separation of the body from the frame. The roof looks more skewed sideways than crushed, which is a good thing.

As to seatbelts on busses, that was always controversial. There is some current info here:

School busses are still the safest form of transportation. More children are killed outside the bus than inside. Seatbelts not worn properly can cause injury as well they are used as a weapon against other kids. If there is no monitor on the bus is the school board liable for injuries to the kids?

A properly constructed hiback seat and three point seatbelt would in my opinion be the way to go, but I can't see it happening any time soon.

Just some points to ponder.
