scheduling software?

My volunteer unit is looking to automate our scheduling and membership database. Anyone have any suggestions about software that does this?

There are many out there, but they're expensive. I found the cheapest solution was to hire a programmer from Elance.com/rentacoder.com and have them create a solution that met our needs.

the software we use is RESCUE NET Crew Scheduler by ZOLL
