I am recently as fresh as they get certified emt. I am in the last stages of polishing up my resume for local agencies. Anyone willing to take a look at my resume?! Feedback and critiquing is oh so needed before I start hashing them out this week!

Thank you!

Not to be harsh, but freshly minted EMT basics have nothing special to offer an employer. If you have ANY verifiable customer service experience, make sure you highlight that. Otherwise, a basic, short 1 page resume is more than adequate.

No, your not being harsh. We all have to start somewhere . Here is what I have so far.

Unlike DEMedic, I'm not sold on what you have. Consider trying this format -

Your Name
Your Address
Your Phone
Your email

Qualifications and Certifications

EMT Certification - NREMT (if applicable)
EMT-Basic License - List any State in which you're licensed
AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED) Certification (if applicable)
Any other relevant quals/certs (i.e. ICS 100, EVOC, etc)

Education

Where did you get your EMT training?
Any College?
Any other relevant education?
Only list High School if no College

Experience

Most recent first, Brief description of duties, highlighting and emphasizing those that would be relevant to the job for which you're applying. (What you have on the resume you posted is pretty good, actually)

That's it. Short, sweet and to the point. But - and this is a very big but - be sure you grammar/spell check; let the computer run a check and then you check what the computer checked. (Catch spelling errors by reading from bottom to top and from right to left. Also watch for incorrect homophones (to/too, their/there, etc))

And, I can tell you from experience (I used that format to get my first EMT job w/in a month of getting my license) that it works.

Advice for you getting a job: leave California. Down here (hell, most of the rest of the country), if you have a pulse and a patch you can find a job at a private ambulance in a matter of days (not months).

If he's a fresh EMT, he'll have a current CPR card. No need to list that on a resume. It's like saying "I'm competent in the use of pencils, pens and other writing instruments."

No kidding.

Add items that showcase your customer service skill and organizational skills. Otherwise it's just fluff.

In 95% of cases, being hired as an EMT is as simple as being on the top of the stack when there is an opening.

Don't make it more complicated than it is. It's the ambulance based version of a fast food job.

I am a she, and my concern would be taking space up for certs and requirements that I already need to have in order to apply for said job

I posted what worked for me as a brand new EMT in order to give her another format to consider. Not complicated at all.
