Hey everyone. I'm an EMT-B in PA currently. My Fiance and I are moving to Delaware in the next 6 months. Looking for places of employment there. I'm not above doing IFT but would prefer a 9-1-1 setting. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Fire department. They hire "career" EMTs to drive the ambulance. Try Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, station 91. There are a few bottom feeder IFT companies too.

I did find Station 91 when doing some searches. Gonna look into them. I saw you have LifeStar down there too. We have them here and I'm not really impressed.

I left DE a few months ago. Great place to work in EMS if you're a medic. :)

It's difficult to immediately land a full time fire department job. Most of the BLS people work a string of PT jobs at multiple companies. And realize that it's not a "real" fire job. All of the fire companies are volunteer and they only pay EMTs to get the ambulance out. You may do some suppression, but the main job is driving the ambulance and helping the county medics.

^The above pretty much sums it up. You can get a full time 911 EMT position if you're in the right place at the right time, but many of the FT positions go to people who are already working for them (or somewhere else in the county) part time. On the plus side, many are able to get far more than full time hours by working part time hours in a bunch of places. Hit me up when you get here! I'd be happy to show you around a bit and buy you a beer.
