I've accepted a listing with an employer who provides similar services and want to bone up (punintended ;) ). Any personal recommendations besides Tabers plus Merck?

NO takers?

Let me look in my boss's library and I'll get back to you, I can't remember any of the details of the ones I like the most.

10-4. I'm reading the Tough Mudder blogs and finding some of their laypoerson medical mythology sort of scary.

It kind of depends upon how far down the Sports Med rabbit hole you want to go. There are texts that are essentially an intro, some that delve more deeply into physical exam, some that get into therapeutic modalities... Mine are a few years old, but...

This one is a favorite for some stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Physical-Examination-Extremities-Stanley-Hoppenfeld/dp/0838578535
This one is probably a newer version of what I used for "the basics" of Sports Med: http://www.amazon.com/Athletic-Trai...d=1348800617&sr=1-44&keywords=sports+medicine

This one may also be of use: http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Medici...45&sr=8-99&keywords=Care+of+Athletic+Injuries

There are others...
Pay attention to the "what did other buy after this" for other suggestions.

I use "the five minute sports medicine consult"
Haven't read that one... but it should be good, if you already have a pretty good background, or at least some familiarity with sports med to begin with.

All good, thanks! I can probably spot something medical, but I want to be able to tell if Jane Doe is going down the mountain with an ice bag and a buddy to lean on, or splinted and awaiting transport. I'm especially poor at discriminating between ankle sprain and malleolar avulsion fracture, at least within the first 24 hrs or if ice was put on STAT (bruising versus no bruising).

Correction, I got it in mint condition but a few years old for $6.
It weighs about four pounds.
I need a little teeny booklet just telling me what all the "Signs" being cited are, my PE book, Merck and Tabers are blank about many of these tests.
