Hi,

I recently received my NREMT and am seeking an EMT job. Anyone has recommendations of companies that offer part-time EMT positions in the Sacramento/ Davis/ Vacaville area in NorCal? I also don't mind working at companies that do event standby. Any suggestions would help:)

Thank you!

Just apply everywhere, there is a surplus of EMT's right now so unfortunately you are not going to have your pick of jobs. Be patient and persistent, it may take you several weeks or longer to find something.

Don't forget hospitals, they hire EMT's as well.

As the industry goes through a reduction in tax bases that support a great deal of EMS systems hiring has slowed to a crawl and reduction in forces are becoming a reality. Dont forget that many services have volunteer opportunities as well. This is a great way to network among peers but also many services offer CE's or even courses that could earn a medic additional certifications, it also looks good to a hiring manager when it comes time, and it will eventually, to hire again.

Always look for an opportunity to advance clinical and or educational experience.

There is a growing industry for EMTs outside of our traditional settings. Hospitals, special events, Doctors offices. Believe it or not Craigs List is a good source for ft, pt, and special events gigs. Here in Houston, if your "plugged in" finding PRN jobs that pay EMTs even basics $35 per hour to drive a golf cart around swap meets for 5 or 6 hours a day on the weekends. However I do not recommend paying any entity any amount of money to help you find a job. And do your homework on the entity you do work for. Many medics have been burned by not being paid. If it sounds to good to be true....

Good luck and be persistant.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement, guys!

Re Reidnez:What is the best way to find EMT job openings in hospitals? Is there a central website that hospitals post their job openings? Or, you just have to go to each hospital and ask? How exactly does that work?

This may be true, however, the burnout rate for medics in the ER is high. HCA, Hospital Corporation of America, only require NR and/or state cert in Texas. Like any other position they are competitive. Contact the ER Director and beat them to death. They decide who works in their ER and then let HR do all the paperwork. Normally HR is good for telling you whether there are current openings but the Director knows what staffing levels are and are priveledged in knowing whos leaving and when. Also, look for positions entitled Critical Care Technicians (CCT). They dont always indicate these positions with EMT although it may be a requirement. Also Monitoring Tech, read the position requirements a big title is just that.

Good Luck.

Most likely you're going to have to hit up each hospital individually. Sometimes the facilities also post ads on Craigslist and other sites, I got an interview with an MRI facility that way (but ended up getting hired at an IFT company before the interview).
