I'm new to all of this- I've been charged with getting our ambulance certified with the state of NJ (which is done)- got new stickers etc- Now that I have everything done/stocked etc... Who does inspections (if any?)- are we on our own to check everything? (which we do weekly)- This is an industrial first aid squad with volunteer EMT's responding in a work setting
here in texas, you have to submit an approved inventory list/check off list of your ambulance from your medical control. once the state receives it and verifies it fits their requirements, then they issue a cert for the ambulance.
As long as you have everything listed in the NJOEMS inspection sheet (http://www.state.nj.us/health/forms/ems-19.pdf) your agency is on its own to make sure the rig is compliant until the certification for the vehicle is going to expire at which point you call out the state and they re inspect. Unless you all a member of the Fist Grade... correction First Aid Council who then would do the annual inspection.
thanks- so- should we call the state and have them come out and inspect? (since we have never done before).... or wait until end of the year? It's up to us to schedule the inspection? I would have thought the state initiates it
I thought by your first post that the ambulance had already been certified by the state. If the truck hasn't been inspected and gotten that little rectangular sticker in the back window then yes, call the state and have them come out and inspect it. I would just go through the truck and make sure everything is up to par with the inspection sheet which you can get if you follow the link in my last post.

no more little rectangular stickers (not for the last 2-3+ years) now we use big round stickers that go on the side of the truck.
NJ quirks aside, if you aren't billing, you don't need to be inspected by the DOH. if you aren't part of the NJFAC, you don't need to be inspected by the NJFAC. And you can still use the ambulance for on site calls. Personally, I would become inspected, and bill either your company's workman's comp for on the job injuries or the person's insurance (also typically provided by the company) for medical emergencies, so you have some income to ensure funding is maintained to the ambulance. but that's just me
My service still has the little rectangular stickers in our trucks from last year's inspections I believe, unless I am getting confused with the volly squad's trucks inspected by the first graders.
No inspections required, welcome to NJ. If you go on the DOH website they have the check list of whats required.
Also the state is going back to those small rectangular stickers with holes punched in them for month and year AND the large round stickers, so you get both.
