I recently accepted an offer as an ER Tech at a hospital, and while reading through the job description I came across a few acronyms that I can't seem to find the meaning of, and I don't think I've seen them before.

Listed under Technical Skills, there is a bullet point that states exactly the following:
Application and adjustment of CPM & SCM, TED hoses

Could someone please clarify to me what CPM, SCM, and TED stand for and what they are?

Thanks!

First, get out your text and your medical dictionary.

Second, take a bit to try to find these yourself. Good private time in the john-type of deal.

Third, Google the acronym and the word medical and maybe definition
Cut paste and google this and see:

ted hose medical definition

Take a CNA class ;-)

Actually not a bad idea. Or at least snag one of their little "Pocket Guides to Medical Lingo" or some such.

Didn't think of throwing the word "medical" in there. Did EMT, emergency, er, the works, but not medical. Why didn't it work? Because neither were emergency related :P I guess that's why they are in the low percentage use section.

Thanks for the help, I'll have to find me a pocket guide for acronyms. Textbook didn't have either of them. Like I said, never heard of 'em.

The shift from field to in-house can bite your behind sometimes. Watch out for acronyms used on your facility or department which are not used elsewhere and avoid them in charting.

Yup, there is a lecture on the orientation schedule about that specifically, lucky for us new-hires.

Most places usually will have an approved list of acronyms and what they mean too.
