Well, I got to go to my first plane crash today, as part of the Red Cross. A small plane took off from the Sarasota airport, reported a problem, turned around and crashed. At least one died. Nothing much was left of it.

Okay... pointless post. I know. Oh well. :)

Hey, it's not an everyday event Chimpie...

iirc, last one in the raging metropolis of Chester was glider vs. large pine tree

the dude walked away from it too, and don't you know we all went code 3 like God's own hammer out to it

even the press showed up (scannerlands vultures) , as my mate and i were carrying the stokes back a camera laden papparazzi actually jumped from the brush for a shot

at which we both (simutaneously) tipped the stokes his way to reveal it's emptiness

Here in Chester County we had 3 plane inciedents in a month... 2 were fatals - 2 and 4 in each plane.

We also had a good one about 3 years ago... plane went off the end of the runway, tried to abort, couldn't.... Went off the end of the runway (10 feet above the road), flew over the road, under the power lines, and took out 4 cars in an industrial manufacturing facilities' parking lot. Industrial ERT responded, provided spill control and assisted the passnegers out of the plane.

Situation mitigated prior to FD / EMS arrivial...... Awsome.....

I'm not going to even bring up the plane crash I worked. Too many bad memories. :(

The FF's at my ride along told me about a really bad plane crash that happened here. It was a big commercial airliner and they had to take shifts sorting through the debris for body parts. Said he didnt eat meat for a month... and thats something for this guy, he eats a burger everyday.

When I was little Avianca crashed on the next peninsula over from where I live. It was a huge clusterfudge, many people died who might not have had to. It's definitely something to learn from - I tried to find an article I read on the crash & response, but I couldn't. Here are some photos though:Crash Photos, During & After Photos.

What I remember from the article though was mostly about staging and things like that - it crashed across a 1 lane road, onto a hill. Most of the responders charged right up the road, then got stuck and couldn't turn around and such- so they ended up running patients down the road to the waiting ambulances, then having responders run back up the hill - exhausting people and making things more difficult than they already were. I'm sure you can get the gist from the pics.

Don't wanna even go there!

My daughter went to Japan in 2001 at the age of 17. Her flight to LA was the infamous AA flight 11 about 1 month prior to the attacks (did that ever hit home). Now she is headed for China next month and must fly to LA again. This time, not out of Logan.
