I start medic school this fall and would like to get a jump start on some things.. Are there any companies out there that make a flashcards set that is geared towards medics? Any good books out there? I'm not sure of my text yet for the class so il not sure what book we will be using.

Just make your own and save the money. Instead learning the drugs first i would suggest constantly reading the drug classes over and over. IE CA channel blocker, Beta Blocker, Nutrients, diuretics, catacholamines etc etc. Once you have them down then look at the NREMT medications and reclassify them as drug type instead of name.

Then as you go further into your medic program and you begin to think about using medications you will remember what drug type is needed to fix X problem. Then just choose which drug you have of that type that is most appropriate.

This will not only help in testing, but depending on where you end up working the company may use say Verapamil of some other CA++ blocker. But it wont matter to you as you learned the drug classes and not just drug names

Many people (mystery included) find that making the flash cards themselves helps them learn the material, maybe see if that works for you too?

Would I be able to get started on drug classes through a good pharmacology text book?

Yes but there are also other free reliable resources out there such as Epocrates. Google-fu for the win!
