So w were going over PALS in class and I was wondering has anyone ever heard of or Paced a pedi patient? If so how do you do it and when would you decided for pacing.

The bradycardic, periarrest pediatric patient needs CPR, ventilation and a review of the Hs and Ts, not transcutaneous pacing.

I love how you are so succinct. Thanks.

Pretty much every asystolic or bradycardic non-trauma pediatric arrest I've ever worked. It's not any tougher than deciding to intubate, do a surgical airway or defibrillate.

TomB pretty much hit it on the head. From studying PALS the last two days pacing is not a frontline treatment. My understanding is that pacing on pediatric patients is only used in the critical care setting.

If it's necessary, it's used. Simple as that regardless of setting. The main reason that it isn't used more is this unfounded fear that a pediatric patient instills in non-pediatric specialty providers.
