Hey folks,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 25 y/o relatively new EMT-B from CT. I earned my cert back in September and volunteer for a relatively small town ambulance service. I work 20 hrs/week as an ER security guard and go to school full-time hoping to get into the nursing program at Southern Connecticut State U. Unfortunately, this means I'm not home very often and so I don't get a chance to take many calls d/t low volume for our service - I think I've gone on about 5 calls since getting my cert, teching 2 of them. So I get to see lots of care taking place at work and learn lots of good background info at school (taking A&P, microbiology, and organic chem this semester among other things), but don't get as much hands-on pt care experience as I would like.
I've been reading the forums for a bit and enjoy the anecdotes and scenarios that people post, it's interesting trying to decide how I would approach those situations. Any tips for keeping my EMS skills up given that increasing my volume is not necessarily an option?
