I'm not very concerned about getting my cert/license in Maine. What I would like to know is about services, specifically in the Portland area.

I work full time for a county 911 service in NC and would love to keep working for a government service.

What are the options in that area?
Could I support my wife and myself on a full time salary up there?
What type of shifts are available? I work 24/48's now.
How are benefits?
Is working in an ED or doctor's office an option for medics?
And of course where is a good place to buy a boat?

Any other info is welcome.
Thanks guys!

Portland EMS is provided by the fire department, as are much of the suburban areas though my understanding is that some hire EMS only staff. Maine is a pretty rural place so a lot of EMS is volunteer based with a small number of paid staff to supplement.

There are private companies running 911 with a solid reputation, but none close to Portland if I recall.

I don't spend much time in Maine anymore so this could be outdated.
