so i have a question and i couldnt find anything in the search about paramedic loans. is it even availiable? the closest paramedic program is in bakersfield through bakersfield college and i couldnt find anything about FAFSA on their website (big surprise, govt website doesnt work) also i work 2 jobs as it is and couldnt afford to take off work and go to school fulltime. how did you guys do it? BTW i am not currently ems employed so there is no tuition assistance through my employer. how long is medic school? m-f

Price and schedule depends on the program. I go 0900-1700 tue-thurs.

sorry that was a vague question. the school is around $7k and i know the m-f hrs but i meant month wise.

Their website should tell you. Mine is 12-14 months depending on how long it takes you to get all your points for your internship.

Just letting you know, if you work at hall ambulance in Bakersfield, they'll pay you to go through paramedic school, but you have to sign a 2 year contract with them. Good luck!

i will sign a 10 year contract with them. i just have to wait to jan to reapply because i failed some rediculous online character test. i know that sounds bad but it was mostly questions like: You are never late to work. Strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree. i guess (from inside source) you have to have very strong feelings about how you answer questions. i took it honestly and put agree. sure there are some days where i am a few minutes late but honestly i mow grass for a living and were on salary so punctuality isnt a big deal. long story short i was way to honest and over analyzed it.

Ouch! Yeah I had to go through hose questionnaires as well lol... I remember now... Well when your going through those questionnaires, go through it with another person so you can get their opinion as well. And good luck in working for them, I know their company looks professional as well.

Student loans are the answer. I went to Mt SAC and it is a community college so you qualify for federal aid, state grants, and federal loans - you apply through FAFSA.

It took me ~10 seconds to find the Financial Aid section of Bakersfield's website, and it prominently mentions FAFSA:

I don't think the problem is with the website.

Your options are finding ways to reduce expenses, finding ways to continue working, or taking out enough student loans to cover your expenses

oh haha awesome thanks. i was on the fafsa website looking for bakes and kept getting a "page doesnt exist" message. i have never had to take out student loans. can i decide the amount to take out, or do they give you just the amount that will cover the class? sorry guys bear with me, i dont know what im doing haha

I suggest you contact their financial aid office. They will most likely be happy to walk you through some of the processes.

You can decide the amount you accept to an extent, but there will be a maximum based on tuition + school-determined living expenses. My tuition for fall semester is ~$4,000, and my offered aid is ~$8,000. I can accept anything from $1-$8,000. This is federal money; you can also get private loans (with higher interest rates) through banks, credit unions, credit cards, and parents =)

Perfect that was a good start. I will call financial aid Monday. Thanks again
