Hey everyone, so just curious as to what the masses say about this...i've been lurking around this site and have seen nothing but useful responses (for the most part) so i figured i'd ask you all...I'm currently looking for an EMT job like half of California, and was jw what you all thought about the pros and cons of each an online app and a physical copy.

Online App
Pros-
- Able to use Adobe Pro X to type everything and make it look very clean.
-Sent right away on schedule
- easy to do
-Able to fill out Apps for areas it'd take 7 hours to drive (I.E. San Francisco)
Cons-
- Makes me look lazy
- May not be taken seriously

Physical Copy
Pros-
- Able to show how serious I am about the job with a suit and tie
-able to put a name to a face
- Able to meet some of the staff
-Able to attach my resume
Cons-
-Some places (via word of mouth) "Really Appreciate) typed out Applications
-Have to drive hours for some places ^^^ and gas isn't the cheapest if we haven't noticed

Anyways, thanks for your time and your responses! Here's to the job and to you! :beerchug:

I took the class in CT (just passed in May) but I've been going back and forth for testing and applications and stuff. I would love for the testing to somehow be online, but it has to be very controlled apparently, so that won't happen. I just wish NJ had more testing centers.

Unless an online appllication is specifically requested, I'd say that a physical application is the way to go, and a physical application delivered by hand is even better. With the volume of applications that ambulance companies get, anything to differentiate you from the rest of the stack is going to work in your favor. Not only that, but when you go to drop off your application you can get a bit of a feel for what the agency is really like.

Don't do an online app unless you absolutely have to. Go in person (dressed nicely) with your application, resume, and copy of your cards. Who knows, you might get an interview on the spot and walk out hired. If you can't drive to the company, at least mail all of the above documents so that someone has to physically open the envelope and deal with your materials.

Also, if you don't want to drive the distance to just apply to a company, do you want to drive to that place for work everyday?

I was thinking the same thing Tigger....the only reason going that far out, is the fact that i'm willing to move to the job...
