Hello all

Ive been lurking for a bit and decided to register, appreciate the help ahead of time.

a little back ground , I completed my EMT-b State of VA certification in January of 2010. I since then volunteered at a local fire / rescue dept until going away for college. Due to various reasons college is going on hold for a bit and ive started working a job that im not very happy with but it pays the bills.. on the bright side ive started back up volunteering with Fire rescue again and loving it. I live on the TN / VA boarder and most ambulance services are located in TN so i have been looking into getting my NREMT-b.

my question is since it has not been 2 years since passing my VA emt-b, do i still need to take the practicals again. (virginia uses same test as nremt).
Also the EMT's in TN have a larger scope of practice including certain drugs and iv's. so would the NREMT-b test on these things?.... (hopefully this all made sense)

Remember, the national registry is a "certification" not a license to practice. NREMT-B test is going to be the same in any state that honors it. TN does offer reciprocity therefore you should probably just need to show that you are NR certified and then take a "extended scope class" to be trained on the extra meds and get your IV cert. Since this was the first state I got my license in I'm not positive about transfering into the state. I would call Nashville ems division and ask specifics for the state. Let me know if this number helps and what you find out!

This should get you some info: TN EMS 615-741-2584

Also to be more specific, no the NR basic exam will NOT have questions pertaining to extra meds allowed in TN as well as nothing IV related since its a nation wide certification. Also, I would be willing to venture that as long as your NR cert is still current you would not have to retest, maybe only for extended scope...
