I just took my NREMT and I passed! After I got my results at the bottom of the page it said that though I passed it was not a license to practice. I've already gotten my certification in the mail and my status on my state's department of EMS website changed but how do I go about making it so I can practice. Or am I just worrying over nothing haha

SN: I'm in Virginia so if anyone is familiar that would be great
 
If you have a State certification, you are usually good to go.

Go to your EMSA website and see if there are any additional lical requirements (ambo driver cert, medical exam etc)
 
I’d guess that to practice, you’d need to be affiliated with an agency of some sort, either as a volunteer or an employee. The agency may be a rescue squad, a hospital, or some other organization that would need to have AN EMT on hand. When I got certified in Virginia earlier this year, I was already a member of my local volunteer rescue squad.
 
Im not familiar with Virginia, but usually there is a state or county EMT card that you need to get. For example when I passed national I had to go to my county EMS office and apply for my card. I do believe all it was the application, live scan, CPR card, and a application fee. I would do some research into it, maybe look up your county EMS website, or ask someone in your department.

Hello and congratulations.
In VA:
You passed and got your NREMT cert. Next apply and get reciprocity from the state of VA (really just paperwork). At some point, you need to be affiliated with an EMS agency. With the agency you get an OMD (medical director). With all this done ... you can practice, while on duty, under your medical director. Also in VA, its a certification and not a license ... no, I don't think it's right, but it's the way it is.
Keep in mind that currently the requirements for NREMT recert and VA EMT recert are not the same.
