Sooo. This is the continuation of my "Such a Baby" thread from last May.

I had a toothache, and I knew that it was my other bottom wisdom tooth. So I tried to set up an appointment with my dentist (same guy for 15+ years)... and my dad says "Oh, yeah, I ran into him in August and he said he was almost retired, and would be done by the end of the year".... Annoyingly enough, my dad didn't think this was important to tell me, even though we both been told in May that i needed to set up an appointment in "a month or 2" to get my other two teeth pulled. Well, I put that off, and then my dentist retires   :excl:

Think back to Tuesday. I've got a small chip on my bottom right wisdom tooth, and it's been causing me pain. Then I find out that I can't go see my regular dentist, becase he's retired.

So I start looking at the Univerity of Penn's School Of Dental Medicine. To get an emrgency appointment, you've got to call a day in advance at 0800 to get an appointment for 1230 the next day. I called Wedensday morning, worked until 1100 yesterday, and then went to go get my teeth pulled.

So I went downtown... I had to get a ride, because I assumed I wouldn't be in great shape to drive home. My initial dental student takes X-rays and sends me to the oral surgery clinic. I go to the oral surgery clinic and wait, and wait, and wait. At 1600, I finally go back, and get my 2 teeth pulled.... Local anesthesia only.... no IV sedation, no nitrous.... damn doc...

I get the discharge instructions, and ask about painkillers.... Just take motrin or APAP, I'm told.... it shouldn't hurt too bad... :excl: :excl:  :excl:

So, I went home, dug out the leftover APAP+Codine I had from last time (5 left out of a 15 pill perscription), and took 2 last night. I slept REALLY GOOD. Today, I've been good with just 600mg of Ibeprofen so far, but I will probably take another Tylonol #3 tonight.

I'm off work today, and have to work tomorrow morning, then go to the squad tomorrow night.

So.... I'm actually doing pretty good, all things considered... I've caught up on my sleep, and may even clean my room   .

Anyway.......

"Shouldn't hurt too bad..." haha. I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, and let me tell you, that was the only time I ever seriously thought about killing myself, and that would have been just to make the pain stop.

The dentist told me I should take some of the pain medication when I got home. My dad drove me home, and asked if I wanted some. I couldn't feel anything, so I said no, I didn't need any. But I guess the anesthesia just hadn't worn off yet. Within an hour, that's when I wanted to kill myself. Just to stop the pain.

Here's an amusing story I have from the same incident... At that time, I was drinking a lot of Coca-Cola. But after getting my wisdom teeth pulled, because of the bad taste left in my mouth, I couldn't drink any, because it tasted like nothing. I couldn't drink any Coke for two or three days after the surgery. But when I was finally able to, I didn't really have any desire to. So, I figured I must have been addicted to Coca-Cola. :) Now the funny part of this story is that, a few months later, I was working at McDonald's, and I was telling one of my coworkers this story. Right as a customer was stopping at the drive-thru window, I was saying how I used to have an "addiction to Coke". I saw this funny look come over the driver's face, but it took me a minute to realize (and by then, the customer was gone) that when the customer heard me say "Coke", she heard the slang word "coke" for cocaine. :D

Jon...you need to find another new dentist! I hope you feel normal again soon.

Feel better soon!! ;)
Actually - One good think came out of this...

The dental student who was working in the clinic (Very good looking young woman ;) ), after I said that they wern't taking new patients until May, said that she could just schedule me in as a new patient for herself, and I've got an intake appointment in early April!!! :)

So, it wasn't that bad.

As for the pain?

Well, I went through 3 of the 5 Tylonol #3's I had left from last time round, and there isn't much 600mg of Advil won't cure..... :)

So, I'm still medicated but eating real food again.
