Does anyone know of an EMS company or systerm that is hiring other than REMSA? I've already applied there but there are currently no open positions.

Gallon has Banner Health, Winnemucca and Ely, maybe a few others...not much there.

Are you a B? I? P?

Sorry I'm on my phone. Other than REMSA you've got Banner in Fallon like rocket said, North/Central/South Lyon County Fire, Humboldt General outta Elko EMS in Elko and that's about it. Banner just hired, Humboldt never hires, I don't know about Elko, a little bird told my North Lyon was looking to hire soon. East Fork Fire comes to mind too but they have a list and are only hiring off of that. Truckee Meadows Fire is hiring Intermediates and Medics or was not sure if they filled all the spots, they are ALS non transporting and you need your FF1 to apply. I heard Sparks Fire is hiring a couple soon, ILS non transporting and I think they are using their old list as well.

REMSA has spots open but you need to be proactive about it. They get hundreds of apps with people who follow up, they aren't going to chase you, especially of you have no experience.

The only way you're going to get hired in Northern NV is as an Intermediate or Medic, no one really uses basics except the random FD.

Thanks for the information. I'm currently a basic but working my way toward intermediate.

Get your I. REMSA only uses basics for special events and that hiring season has come and gone. Washoe County mandates that all ambulances are I/P or P/P configuration. The only time a basic can be on a truck is in a MCI scenario.

Some of the outlying companies might consider hiring a B as a driver but there are so many I's and P's out there it doesn't really help them, ya know?

Best of luck to you!

Other than becoming an I, what else can I do? I know REMSA has an entrance exam for I's, what is that like? What is the best way to prepare for that?

It's just like an Intermediate class final, just shorter. Then if you get hired you have skills stations, orientation, 4 weeks of FTO and a protocol test.

Or so I hear...
