Greetings all-

I also posted on the "Official Introduction Thread" just thought I'd start another with more detail.

I am 24 years old and am a former police/fire/ems dispatcher. Did that for a little over 5 and a half years in Northern Arizona. I am now back in Tucson and working for a hospital down here. Thought I wanted to go into nursing, however I despise sitting in an office so I am switching to a career in Paramedicine. Same scope as emergency medicine, just out and about instead of sitting in a hospital...

Anyway, I start EMT School at the community college down here end of May - 2 days a week 9 hours a day (part of the summer semester) until beginning of August.

See everyone around!

Anthony

Not sure exactly what you are referring to as "emergency medicine", however regardless, you will find that you are very wrong about the "scope" being the same.

If you're looking for action and excitement and something to do all day, EMS is going to dissapoint you. You spend long periods of time with nothing to do but walk the mall or fight over the radio.

I've always been far busier on my hospital clinicals than my rescue ride times.

Oh I know that - and that is a good thing... however I like to be out and about... I sat in a cave (dispatch) for over 5 almost 6 years and now I sit in an office... I like to be able to be out and about. I start to feel the walls close in around me otherwise!

Welcome to the tribe!!!!!! It is a great thing that you have been on the other side if the mike for dispatch, good luck with school!! Keep us posted :)
