In CT, a group of us got a 4 day notice on the practical changes - literally - and wasn't grandfathered (insert tears) even though our training was complete and the former skill sheets were fused in our brain. SO, tons of fails came out that day, some or many due to poor communication, the state not having a strong understanding of what they wanted, etc - IMHO
2nd attempts for some were tonight. I was told, hit my marks (all steps) and life would be golden. This was after failing 3 stations in round one. I'll take my lumps, but really shouldn't be the one prompting the evaluator what to say then - oops, you went over your time or end up missing a sucking chest wound because you were only told there's a laceration in the chest, etc. Plus, there were more people from the state vs evaluators.
- - - So I hit medical tonight, an AMS - possible stroke, maybe TIA, but symptoms were at 1 hour. My mind splits between "hit your marks" and load & go. Ended up running with SAMPLE, vitals - then restated priority pt and should transport a to Hosp that's able to treat.
What say anyone or especially evaluators - should I have skipped SAMPLE and gone right to transport? Granted, I didn't have the pt smile or hold arms up - buy the symptoms noted seemed clear enough. What isn't clear is, if I skip steps because time is critical - how can I be evaluated on the second half of scoring. Appears fail either way under the new method. You either, potentially, miss a lot of points or fail to recognize a critical & continue questions.
Thoughts??
