New emt nervous

Sorry, I mean I give a yak sak and Zofran to the puking patients. Hahaha. I'm not a sympathetic pukey. :)

But I do have a script for Zofran ODT and keep a couple in my truck bag. I get a little carsick on long, winding roads. Never puke, but I get nauseous. I just asked my doc and she wrote me.

Should i talk to my doc about getting some or wait until i start and see how it goes

Why don't you wait a while and see how it goes. I honestly think you're worrying about nothing.

How should I prepare. Been watching puke YouTube videos for a few days . Start in a week should I keep watching or just ease my mind and deal with it when it happens.

Even though the risk of exposure is low you need to always go in to the call with adequate BSI/PPE. Additionally, your patient assessment is your biggest method to determining how cautious you need to be around certain patient whether they have a communicable disease or they have been ill for the past few days. If you do believe you have been exposed, then activate your exposure plan, it is best to deal with the issue before it escalates into a serious problem. I Recently responded to a patient who about 2 hours after the call was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis in the hospital. Thankfully my entire crew had adequate PPE, but just as precautionary measures we all went to the ER to get checked out. The nurse took a set of vitals and gave use each 1 dose of cipro (500mg i think) and that was it. Just keep in mind that the risk of catching something is an occupational hazard in the medical field and just make sure you keep your body health (eat right, sleep right, exercise, etc.), always wash your hands after every call, and follow safety protocols. In terms of how many times people have puked on me? that would be a big fat 0. because I always ask if they are feeling nauseous. If they say yes, I wip out a emesis bag immediately. good luck

It depends on your area. I haven't had an active puker in weeks. But there is pretty much no nightlife in my zone and I'm not shy to administer Zofran.

Thanks should i keep watching the youtube videos or should i just try to relax about it

You'd be better off studying and reviewing your notes than watching puke videos.

Dude, relax. You are over thinking this WAY too much. You will get sick sooner or later. Someone will puke sooner or later. But not to the point you gotta worry yourself over it. Spend that time watching educational videos rather than of people puking, you will be much better off.

Personal rule of thumb:

If you can deal with C-diff, you can deal with anything up to burning flesh.

For a brief period before I went into the Border Patrol I was a street cop. You ain't lived 'til a drunk pukes in your vehicle.
