I just passed the NREMT before the end of the year. I've been applying everywhere that I can possibly find. I've put in an app with R/M but I have to run my certification paperwork up to them. I've put in apps with Banner and CHW hospitals for ED tech or patient care tech positions.

Is there any hope? Or do most of these places not hire without experience? I really have a passion for EMS, so I really hope that I didn't get my EMT-B for nothing.

I just feel like the job outlook for the phoenix area seems to be pretty awful.

Apply at the indian casinos. They keep EMT-B staff on hand 24/7, and you will get a lot of hands on experience between the often unhealthy staff and the patrons. You may have to perform some security duties part time, but you will be called on to perform your medical duties many times per day.

And you will work either by yourself, or with another EMT-B, so you will not be sidelined and just a driver.

Realize you are looking for a paid position, but while you are looking have you thought about volunteering with a local agency. Not only will you gain experience it'll look great on a resume for a paid position.

I think it is even more difficult to land a position fresh out of school more so today than it has been in the past because of the economy so horrible employers are able to be more “choosy” when trying to get an applicant.

Volunteer agencies are starving for members, and some are even comb. Might be another chance to get a paid slot.

What is even harder is most of positions I’ve seen offered are P/T so no benefits and for lack a better word “shaky” hours.

i have thought about volunteer positions, but that would be difficult for me. i'm a stay at home mom right now. we can't really afford to put the kids in day care unless i'm getting paid. and i go to school at night. i am trying to volunteer for some one time events.
