Sweet. The airway seat is a different design than I've seen before. Is there a specific reason you guys went with that seat over the traditional one?

Also, I LOVE the dual over head bars, I wish all ambulances had those!
 
The overhead bars are great!

The Airway seat is more of an airway bench. That way the attendant can be right at the head of the gurney instead of off set some. (Really useful when you can have two EMTs in the back. The other reason is that we can store two oxygen tanks under the bench. That comes in really handy when you have to bring three MVA pts in 2 hours in snow and ice and have all of them on 15 L and not have to worry if one tank is half full when you start.:P

One of my favorite things about this rig (and it's almost ident. twin already in service) is that there are benches that encircle the entire gurney (except for the foot. Duh!). I like it much better than the bench on one side and the CPR seat on the other.

Do you not have the big O2 cylinder?

I like the idea of having more room to sit at the head of the patient. I'm not vertically gifted, and more than once I've ended up kneeling at the head of the gurney in order to have proper access to the patients head/neck/airway since I couldn't reach from the airway seat without totally throwing off my balance.

Do you not have a traditional airway seat, combined with a childs seat? How do you transport kids?
 
Congrats. I know I always enjoy getting new ambulances. Each time we make changes hoping to adapt to what we need. Sometimes choices are good, sometimes bad only time will tell.
 
Thumbs down. This truck was very poorly thought out on a safety level. The lack of the Captain's seat results in the lack of a secure seat for the medic to safely belt into. The side windows are useless, result in a loss of cabinet space, and result in a flying glass safety hazard and ejection hazard. The bar at the head of the squad bench is inadequate for restraining a seated passenger in a front end collision. The full plexiglass cabinetry at the bulkhead is dangerous to the medic who is being thrown forward by a front end collision.

Only thing I like about this truck is the color.

Captains seat - It's still there, just really wide

Windows - Where they placed the windows is where they were not usually cabinets anyway... Sure about the glass, but that's what tempered glass is for...

Bar at the end of the bench - I agree with you 100% here, there should be a net there without a bar.

Plexi - Get that net, problem solved.

A place to sit does not equate to a Captain's seat. There is no padding behind that bench. And it's too wide for seatbelts to work effectively.

Tempered glass does nothing to keep you from being ejected in a rollover. And although it does not present the danger of shards, it still isn't nice in the eyes. Especially when there is no reason to have it there in the first place.

Well I do agree with you about the bar, it definatly should be a net.

There is a "Captains seat" of sorts and it is padded alond the back and headrest area. Where else is a traditional one padded. There are actually people at my service that might be too tall for a standard airway seat to properly protect their head in a crash. This design eliminates that problem.

The window: Maybe unneeded, but nice to have. I mean, how many cabnets does an ILS rig need? Not many. No, glass is not nice in the eyes, but neither is the rest of the stuff in the rig that will fly in a wreck. Ejection? Non existand hazard if every one in EMS wore a belt. I admit that I dont all of the time, but I do a lot of the time.

As for the plexi-glass, anything there is dangerous to an attendant being thrown forward. Mebby plexi is a little more so. But once again if we all buckled up like we should.................. Actually I'm not sure if that is plexi. It may be something that Braun NW will remove. This rigs (almost) twin is all open in the fron cabnet.

What makes a bench too wide and an airwtraditional seat and an empty space next to it not too wide? If you think the belt crosses the whole bench, it dont. It only coveres half of it. About the same distance across as a seat.
 
Nice looking rig. I'm not sure I would want it, but then again I'm used to big Type III's. Spoiled I guess. Regardless, very nice looking truck.
 
Well, The rig showed up here about 2 hours ago, right as I was getting on. I helped wash it and we are starting to stock it now. I was told by the guy that delivered it that I was talking about it like it was my new girl friend!:P

Type III's suck when you hit a deer or elk. Nothing between you and them. At least on a type I you have a little distance to keep them from ending up in the cab with you.

I had a friend hit a deer in a type I not to long ago. He was going about 45-50 mph. The deer hit the brush guard right over the right headlight and the gaurd bent back but did not break the light. The deer was just kinda flung to the side. After the gaurd was bent back into place (And the front end washed) the rig was good as new.
