I just gained my NREMT Paramedic certification and I have been looking around for jobs in Nevada and Arizona to apply for. I have no state EMS license in Nevada or any surrounding states. I've seen that most medic jobs here in Nevada and Arizona require a state EMS license to apply and work.

A question I have is what exactly do I have to do to gain certification in these states? Is it just fill out the form and pay the fee? Looking into Arizona I thought I saw that they required me to take an ALS refresher course to gain state license. Coming originally from Oregon, all the state required was pay couple hundred dollars and then fill out a form and boom you had your state license.

A concern I had is also, I dont wanna go and pay, for instance, a Nevada state license and then not be guaranteed a job in the state and then turn around and apply for an Arizona state license to apply for jobs in Arizona.

If someone could clear any of this up for me that would be great.

Nevada all you do is fill out the form, and send it in with copies of all your certs.

Las Vegas does not use the Nevada guidelines. Clark County has their own office of EMS and its own certification process.

Technically there is no "Paramedic" title in NV, its EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Advanced. Advanced = Medic don't ask me why.

Nevada is a really cheap state. It's $10 for certification. No one is going to hire you without a state card.

Thanks a lot for that reply. I'm relieved its only $10 for the Nevada cert. Hopefully I can get a hold of someone Tuesday at the Southern Nevada Health Dist then about obtaining the cert for Clark County.

If anyone has information regarding the way Arizona does their state certification process that would be great too.

Clark County is probably more expensive. You also have to take a protocol test as well.

Most companys won't even look at you without a state license. It's a pain but sometimes you have to play along. I hold about 4 different state medic licenses and 2 temp licenses. Then again I've applied a lot of places.

Arizona is pretty easy, fill out the form, send it in to them, and they mail you a temp card. Later on you have to go take a state protocol exam
