I'm new..obviously lol. I am a resident of CA and plan to be for a few years at least. I've passed all the test and just need a little guidance to start my EMT career. I've been given the run around by everyone and just need a few answers to what I think are simple questions... Thanks in advance

1.) The DMV has yet to issue me my ambulance license. I passed the test and have a permit in hand. Can I still apply for an EMT job without that physically in my hand?

2.) I have been getting mixed answers on whether or not I should re- register with the national. Should I? And how do I go about that? I do plan to stay in CA for at least 2 more years.

3.) Although I have not been considered "active" til recently because I took a job in NYC after graduation. But I am back in San Francisco for at least 2 years, do I need more than those 24 CE s that I acquired during my EMT refresher course earlier this year?

The local EMS agency could not answer any of these questions. And I've called the DMV and its been said my license is pending but no sure date when I'll be receiving it. My national registry expires in March and my CA license in June. Please advice.

1.) if its the pink paper that is a temperarory certification then yes you can apply.

2.) if you plan on moving out of CA then yes you should stay NREMT certified. Information about how can be found here:

Thank you. If i decide to go out of state years from now do I just retake the NREMT again?

I believe if you are working as an EMT you can pay and take the NREMT test once. If you pass then you get certified and if not you have to go the CE hour ways.

I'm not 100% sure though. I let my NREMT expire and am not moving out of California so I haven't really looked at how to recert for it.
