I know an EMT needs to pass the nremt process to be state certified. However, I can take a Red Cross EMR course and become certified right away.

I've never seen a job require an EMR cert, it's usually just a CPR first aid cert. So is the nremr cert even necessary? Seems pointless to me.

I didn't realize that NREMT was testing first responders. I taught the Red Cross version of first responder, emergency response. Most of our students were industrial responders or fire brigade safety team members or security guards. Also had a good number of students who were getting ready to take the EMT class in Seattle. The EMT program used the first responder textbook as the study guide for the entrance exam. (Yes, there was an entrance exam to get into the EMT program.)

We have a fair number of first responders here in Georgia, might not be a bad idea to all get them all on the same page with national registry certification. Although, if they're going that far, maybe they should just become EMTs

It certainly seems like the Red Cross's EMR class qualifies you to take NREMR.

That being said, I have seen some public safety gigs require EMR licensure (or the state equivalent), which could be achieved via NREMR, such as PD and FD jobs. I would not expect many other roles to require any sort of licensure for this level of training.
