Hey everyone, just a quick question. I'm an EMT-B in MA and moving to CA. I'm thinking about taking the national exam to make reciprocation easier when I move, I literally just got certified in MA in Feb. Can anyone tell me if I'm going to have to take both the written and the practical exam for my national certification? I tried browsing the NREMT website, but it was somewhat confusing, and I've heard several different things from different people, can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks!

The practical test you did for your MA EMT is probably good, but I would contact the state to be sure.

I thought you had to take NREMT to be a certified EMT-B?

not all states recognize or use the nremt. MA just started using them.

As long as you completed your MA practical in the last 2 years you can use it as credit and just sit for the written.

CA uses the NREMT as their state test. Some counties also require their own test. Your best option would be to contact the county in CA that you plan on moving to and find out what their policy is.
