Hello All,
I just found this wonderful chat forum. Glad to be apart of now. Reason for my post is, my wife and I are looking to move to NC and start our lives together. However, I want to make sure I move to an area where jobs are plentiful or at least obtainable. I am currently living in south FL. I am a state and national EMT-B and state and national firefighter 2. I also started paramedics class today. It is a year long and I will then be nationally and state certified for that as well. I work as a lifeguard part time but I am in the hiring process for 3 departments and its looking good that at least one of them will pick me up. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my schooling paid for and work (that's the dream goal). I'll probably be in FL for another 2-4 years before we move. I've looked at a few areas in NC. It seems that I am already over qualified for most positions I am seeing. I am seeing they require EMT-B and then they will put you through school for the rest.
First question, am I correct with my last statement? Am I overly qualified for most of the firefighter jobs in NC and does that raise my chances in hiring?
Second question, does NC accept all my national certs? To my research it seems like all my certs will directly transfer, however verifying it from a local would be great.
Third question, where would be the best city for us to move to? I don't mind driving 1.5 hrs to a station maybe even 1 hr 45 min. No more than that though. From my research it seems like Raleigh-Durham area would be the best. It consistently has more jobs posted is my basis for best region. Also, its the fastest growing city in the nation. So more people will obviously mean more medical calls. I definitely prefer the fire side but I am very competent and confident in my medical as well. If you have other thoughts or input on any of the three questions please don't hesitate to assist me. Thank you.
