I moved to Minnesota a few months ago. I worked as an EMT in Pennsylvania and had no trouble finding a job, however here I'm having a very difficult time. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to apply to know of anyone that is hiring? I really don't want to loose my certifications because I can't get any experience. Thanks in advance.

The big 3 companies in Minneapolis/St. Paul are Hennepin County EMS, Allina Medical Transport, and Healtheast Medical Transport.

Allina and Healtheast both hire EMT-Basics. I don't believe Hennepin hires them though.

There are a few smaller companies as well as volunteer outfits the further you get out into the boonies.

North memorial, HealthEast, Allina health, CART, and Ridgeview are the only metro services that hire EMT's for work the streets, critichair or interfacility. In close proximity to the metro are gold cross (mayo), Lakeview, new river, Glencoe and Northfield.

If you want to talk at a computer, everyone will hire EMT's to work in dispatch, otherwise good places are safetycall international (commercial poison center), cardionet (ecg monitoring) or most metro hospitals have EMT's in theER.

Red cross, university of Minnesota and Metrodome/target field have their own BLS services that are volunteer and cover most major sporting events and shows.

Paramedic Opportunities?

Hello all,

I hope im not hijacking this, but I wasnt sure how well it would get seen if I posted elsewhere.

I was a volunteer paramedic and firefighter for several years before moving to the Twin Cities.

I live in the East Metro and I am looking either for a volunteer or paid on call fire/medic position. Or a volunteer medic or part time medic position. I need a way to keep my paramedic license active and would prefer it to be on a Fire Department (if possible, since that will fulfill both my passions).

Thanks for any insights! :)
