Hey all, looking for someone that may work as a civilian medic on a military base. I'm wondering how you like it? What's a typical day like? Additional responsibilities?

Thanks

I can only speak from being military and seeing and talking to the base fire guys but they do all the same stuff as municipal departments except on base with the occasional off base mutual aid. All the job postings I've seen for the most part require FF 1 and 2, HAZMAT, and ARFF certificates to even apply. Depending on the base possibly a wildland cert. some bases are busy due to population others not so much.

Some bases have single role medics which requires national registry and thr normal alphabet soup cards

The Army base here has civilian DOD fire guys and civilian single role EMS providers. Both have paramedics but are not the same agency. The ambulance service is considered a bit of a retirement type service but they still have a half decent call volume. The Air Force bases here have a mix of active duty and civilian on base fire departments with EMS provided by a private contractor.

Air Force bases here have private contractors and are the definition of vacation stations. Bliss has a federal FD and a contracted private EMS service (UMS). I think Hood is federal single-role paramedics. Sam Houston is AMR.
