Medics what happens when you don't know the treatment

I have been a basic for over 10 years now in a very rural area where ALS is a dream not a reality on most days in our county. I have worked numerous codes with just a driver and only getting ALS backup 2 minutes out from the hospital. It is hard when we get a new intermediate or medic that was only a basic for 2 months, if that much time, and they want to spend too much time on scene doing " ALS things" when I can see from 5 feet away this is a bag and drag. I give my basic thoughts of the situation then assist. At times it is hard but they tend to learn.

So you know whats right? You actually believe you have a right to compare or even question others. I now ask, how far from an ER is it okay to start ALS treatment? Five feet, 100 feet, one mile? I ask you to do this, stop breathing, aspirate, go into v-fib and we won't do anything except "bag and drag". Since you know so much more than those that are new.. (remember one can be ignorant and do things wrong for decades).

I would listen to be respectful, then inform you it really does not matter what you think. Your job is to drive and provide the little care you can do, oh to also assist me. Do that well and I will respect you.

Lemme give ya a right quick education. ALS brings the hospital to the patient. intubation provides a secure airway, defibrillation and ACLS medications are the same in hospital and out. Allow us to take our time, treat the patient, and start their recovery. What we do in the field is an extension of the ER. Our job is to bring the ER to the patient first, then bring the patient to the ER.

I like how you put that.
