Medic Moving Back to TX...Help

I am from north of DFW and moved to Pittsburgh, PA where I became an EMT, and then a medic. I work here as a medic and I am wanting to move back to Texas. Since I have never worked in EMS in Texas I wanted to see what places are the best pay/benefits wise and whatnot. Any comments and help would be much appreciated.

I really hope to find something comparable to my salary now, which is $21.14/hour.

Most of the big name 9-1-1 services are not currently hiring. I am from KY and awaiting positions to open up so I can too, move. Good Luck.
 
Considering Oklahoma City? Were hiring. Oklahoma and Texas are almost the same anyways.
 
Lol. My wife and I are getting more house in Spring then OKC for the same amount of money. I looked but its just not feasible.

For OKC, I saw the relocation bonus...what is that all about and is it legit?

Also, what is the pay and benefits like there?

OKC has came into my mind as I have family in the area.

Nope not even close. Of course us Texans do owe thanks to you guys. Because Oklahoma sucs Texas doesn't fall into the gulf. :rofl:
 
The relo and sign on bonuses are legit, but are split up. 2500 when you start, 2500 when you get out of academy, and 2500 for the next two years on your anniversary. I was told my salary would be 45-47k with my experience included. They also give out OT bonuses of 250-300 plus your OT pay when you sign up and work OT. I've been in contact with people there who have cleared 1500-2000 extra per paycheck because of it. Modest protocols and decent equipment. For a new medic it's an awesome adventure.

SSM with high call volumes = lots o turnover = lots of OT.
 
What is the academy?

Do you know anything about their health benefits? Do they have a pension program? Are they private or government ? Do you know what type of shifts they have? Steady rotating schedule?
 
Academy is a 4 week orientation program you initially attend to test your skills and knowledge to prepare you for the road. Health benefits, retirement are all on their website. http://www.emsaonline.com/

Shifts are 12 hour postings on street corners. 100k run volume.
 
Is the orientation paid at your hourly rate or something different? Is the schedule set with permanent partners?
 
Are the 12 hour shifts a steady schedule with permanent partners? Does everyone work out of OKC? Or do you pick OKC or Tulsa?
 
Tulsa and OKC are like they're own agencies within a parent agency. Beyond that I couldn't tell you. Call Rick and he can give you more info. He's the OKC recruiter.

Academy is 40 hours a weekday at your had rate, you can do observation rides for paid other. It's five easy weeks. On a shift basis, you can work bonus (needed) OT days and double your money- I made $500 on Tuesday with my OTHER rate of 23.04 x 13 hours + $350 shift need bonus +$25 late call bonus. I should make around 44k with minimal ot this year.



We mostly have assigned partners, mine is awesome. We are also supposed to start a rotating schedule in May that will give us every other weekend off.

We own medical, fire works for us. It is not like Seattle or L.A. or Vegas.

We are paramedics plus employees, contracted to EMSA. If you're interested in coming aboard, I could use a recruiting bonus lol.
 
These pictures pretty much sum it up when compared to a lot of places. Notice the Compression Cab, designed to put AMR crew members in easy reach of controls, and the fuel-efficient and sleek 1997 E350, with enough dents that you won't have to worry about anyone finding new ones.

Oh I know, I sorta figured it out with the first post.
 
Does anyone have any other suggestions of EMS services (non-fire) in Texas or OK that are good places to work with good pay and benefits?
